Bruce Springsteen Bruce Springsteen full name is Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen and was born on 23rd September 1949 in Long Branch, New Jersey, USA. His father Douglas was of Dutch and Irish ancestry and worked as a prison guard and also a bus driver. His mother, Adele Zirelle was an Italian-American and worked as a legal secretary. After graduating from high school Bruce went to Ocean County College but later dropped out. Going on to reach superstar status as a singer, songwriter and guitarist. TOP AWARDS 18 Grammy awards Received an Oscar in 1993 for the song Streets of Philadelphia from the film Philadelphia. In 1999 he was installed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. DID YOU KNOW? John Hammond who was responsible for signing Bob Dylan also signed Bruce to Columbia Records. Jon Landau famously predicted “I saw Rock ‘n’ Roll future, and its name is Bruce Springsteen.” Bono inducted Bruce into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and Bruce returned the favour in 2005 when he inducted U2. He bought his first guitar for 18 dollars when he was 10. Was inspired by Elvis Presley. Started his first band, the Castiles, when he was in high school.
